Games Night Fund Raiser
Everyone had a blast at our first ever games night. We raised over $1000 and had a ball in the process.
It was the first of it's kind at Bendigo Squash Club and it went off like a frog in a sock.
A great night filled with laughs, competition, food and raising money for our club. In all we raised approximately $1100 which will go a long way in building our juniors competition and maintaining the facilities.
A huge thank you goes out to all the helpers who pulled the night together by blowing up 800+ balloons, cooking and serving food, running the games on court, helping to set up, manning the very busy bar and helping to clean up the next day. Our club wouldn't be the same without you.

Bendigo Squash - Investment in our Juniors
Bendigo Squash club is committed to giving juniors the most positive sporting experience in as many ways possible.
Juniors squash is important for many reasons, the health and social benefits are as good as any sport out there, if not the best for cardio and core fitness. It also has a great social aspect, where players have just as much fun off the court as they do playing our great game.
- We cater for juniors of all ability and make effort to give every player a well matched game.
- Our registered coaches often frequent our juniors nights, ensuring there is plenty of positive advice flowing.
- Everybody wants to have fun, we foster the off court banter and find our juniors start to take real ownership of the club once they feel comfortable.
Junior sponsorship
Each year the Bendigo Squash Club sponsors one junior member, with dedicated coaching and other various subsidies we see this junior make quick advancements.
Junior scholarships
10 Scholarships are offered at the end of each TERM 4 pennant, we like to see the players with the best attitudes returning to our club for the term 1 competition. These scholarships give discounted pennant fees in term 1 the following year plus a few other perks that sees everyone have a good time.
Bendigo Squash Juniors Training
Our weekly training sessions see participants improve at squash with the correct technique and attitude.
To ensure our players get the most out of every Juniors night, we hold a fun training and warm up session before the juniors competition each week. This session is included in the cost of our regular juniors night. We've included an example of what a juniors night looks like below.
These sessions get mixed up from week to week, ensuring they are always exciting and engaging.
Juniors sport should always be about fun, achievement, friendship and cooperation.
A Wednesday juniors afternoon in action:
3:50-4:10
Casual hit while everyone arrives
Usually consisting of one on one hits or 3/4 court, both fun and good game play.
4:10-4:30
Warm up
Fun games, altered game play & dynamic stretching.
This will also include some aerobic exercises to match with our skill work performed later in the training session.
4:30-5:10
Coaching
Group and one on one coaching.
Several coaches on call with a mix of experience and coaching styles.
Group coaching puts juniors of similar skill levels together on court to practice different aspects of the game, this provides both competitiveness and team work to encourage each other.
Our one on one coaching varies between coaches along with style, by giving juniors more dedicated time with coaches it helps them to progress to the next level quicker and gives children greater confidence
We will also use this time to perform skill testing to help the juniors strive to hit the next level and provide them with a greater sense of achievement
5:10-5:50
Round robin and mini tournament
This will change weekly to give variety. There are several types of tournament and game play we can use to give the juniors the best grasp and chance to excel at the fantastic game of squash. This will change to meet the juniors needs and skill sets to ensure the kids have the best time possible.
5:50-6:00
Warm down and stretching
Every week we have a group warm down and stretch to keep the kids fighting fit and as healthy as possible.

2016 Hopman Cup team event
2016 Hopman Cup Team Event - Victorian Country Teams Championships.
Event held at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Center as a neutral venue May 21st & 22nd.
The weekend of the 21/22 May saw 23 very enthusiastic Ladies and Gents aged 15 to 50 something representing our club head down to Melbourne in the wee hours of the morning.
The prestigious Hopman Cup is a country team only tournament that saw 15 teams fight it out across three divisions. Having two teams from Bendigo, the first in division 2 and the second team in division 3. High hopes and unsure of what to expect with so many new faces to the tournament, we were off to a flying start, many wins on the board individually which transferred to the teams overall on top of their respective divisions at the end of day one.
As always, the Saturday night function there was in excess of 60 players, families and friends came along for a great social night where a couple of surprises were announced from our players; a pregnant partner from one and an anniversary from another! The night was a blast and some stayed on the water very conscious of our team prospects and some still managed a few relaxing ales before bed. All in all a great night was had.
Sunday morning saw Bendigo (1) come up against a very strong team from East Gippsland with an ex World Ranked player (Mark Ikin) as the captain which dropped the team back to second on the ladder, which they held at the end. Bendigo (2) team carried their form into the second day staying on top of the ladder through to the last round, which they lost marginally to Geelong! Matches were even but lost by a couple of games.
Have a look below for a couple of photos and results from the teams and individuals.

2016 Gippsland Open, Bendigo Squash Club Represent
Over the weekend we played three to four games each, slogging it out in our respective divisions and doing Bendigo proud.
It would take more than heavy rainfall, detours from a fallen gumtree, car accidents, police escorted escapee cattle and frequent wee stops to hinder our Bendigo Squashies from getting to the Gippsland Open Squash Championships. Held in the beautiful Maffra.
We had arrived in time to sample the local, late night cuisine at the lovely ‘Mr. Pizza’ which would go on to fuel us for the tournament to come.
The representing team consisted of: El Capitan Russell McLean, Steve ‘Adonis’ Ligoli, Katie ‘Bet Winning’ Gordon, Jake ‘The Gent’ McPherson and Timmy ‘Tim Sim’ Nanks. Although we only made up 5 of 97 total competitors for the championships, our spirits were high and our cheers loud.
Katie’s sister, Fiona, provided our accommodation. It was here where Russell did battle with animal fur, Steve did battle with an air mattress and Jake refused to put on pants. This all played out to the sound of laughter, brushing teeth and Alf Stuart.
Over the following weekend we played three to four games each, slogging it out in our respective divisions and doing Bendigo proud.
2016 Geelong Open, Bendigo Squash Club Represent
It's safe to say everybody has a great time at tournaments around Victoria. Especially when you've got a great crew to support you on the court and get you into some mischief off the court.
Geelong put on an absolute ripper of a squash tournament!
It's safe to say everybody has a great time at tournaments around Victoria. Especially when you've got a great crew to support you on the court and get you into some mischief off the court.
It all started at 6am on Saturday morning when our drowsy team of players began the road trip to Geelong, keen to make an impression dressed in our bright orange club shirts, and that we did.
If you couldn't see us coming you could definitely hear us, the Bendigo team was very vocal in support of one another. It's undeniable the boost your game receives when you've got 5 or more teammates shouting your name and clapping to every great rally or point won.
As per usual those who lost their first games were relaxed in counting how many drinks were had as the afternoon progressed and the courts started to wind down. From there we enjoyed the must attend dinner hosted by Geelong which led to some adventures out on the town.
A huge thanks to the team at Geelong who ran an excellent tournament and to all those we met, played and had fun with!
The Geelong Open was one of 4 events that Bendigo will be supporting by subsidising costs of attending for any Bendigo Squash Club Members. These are tournaments not to be missed
Congratulations to all of our Bendigo players and especially:
